Google Pursues Ethereum Founder, Buterin Asks For Opinion in a Poll

The founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin is being reportedly pursued by Google. According to him, a recruiter from the firm reached out to him via mail and asked if he would like to join the company. He shared a screenshot of the mail in a tweet and followed it up with a poll, asking his followers what he must do. The tweet and the poll have since been deleted.

In the screenshot, the users could see a certain Elisabeth Garcia, a Google recruiter asking him if “ma[d]e sense for you now or in the future.” Buterin then asked the Twitter community, “Should I drop Ethereum and work for Google?” More than 2000 people responded to the post and 59 percent suggested that he turned down the offer.

He later deleted the poll and said, “Too bad you can’t quote tweet someone and add a poll.” The recruiter was trying to rope in the young developer into a mysterious blockchain project by the tech giant. Google, a company known for its innovative technologies and vast range of digital services, earlier revealed that they are working on two different blockchain based projects.

The first project will be a tamper-proof auditing platform and the second will be a cloud operations system. The auditing system was patented in September 2017. Its abstract reads, “A method of performing tamper-evident logging may include identifying an existing block in a target blockchain, where the existing block is associated with a first signature, and identifying a block of a second blockchain, where the block that is identified is associated with a second signature. The second blockchain is not a part of the target blockchain.”

A spokesperson for the company said, “Like many new technologies, we have individuals in various teams exploring potential uses of blockchain but it’s way too early for us to speculate about any possible uses or plans,” without revealing the details of the plan.

It is evident that Google could be looking for a talent like the Russian-born Canadian developer Buterin. His Ethereum blockchain is the second largest cryptocurrency in the world, making him a multi-millionaire at a young age. The blockchain is considered one of the best systems in the industry today and it can be used to create various other tokens and apps as well.

Even though the cryptocurrency climate has become glum, the demand for Ethereum blockchain is on the rise. Many new companies that are interested in this space are depending on their technology for fulfilling their dreams. Google wants to create completely new projects. Therefore, they may want a developer like him to contribute to their work.

Another technology company with such big blockchain ambitions in Facebook. The company was reportedly creating its own cryptocurrency. However, the details about this project are still unknown. David Marcus, who led the Facebook Messenger team earlier was picked for this initiative. He said, “I’m setting up a small group to explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch.” This group will report directly to CTO Mike Schroepfer.
